What a Tamil poem !!

கற்பகம்
கதைப் புத்தகம் படிக்கும்போது சொல்வாள்;

When I read this "kavidhai" I was alone. My body and mind were so excited, that I felt like sharing with somebody. How a truth about our Indian girls is so deeply expressed in such simple words. Hats off to the poet. I am yet to get out of the impact and I will never, since this was my feeling all along my life.

Sir, 9.87/km is damn cheap. Last week I had to travel from Chennai Central to Arumbakam - I think that the distance should be max. 8Kms. It was around 5 in the morning - I went to the prepaid auto stand (thinking that it will be like in Bangalore) - and they gave me a slip for Rs.147.00(their token charge was Rs.3.00). The auto driver told me that I had to pay night charge of Rs.30.00 also. After a lot of heated arguments, I did not pay that 30.00 rupees. Of course no one is going to search for all the exact change and so I gave 150.00 and plus the 3.00 the auto fare will work out to Rs.19.00+ On my return I took the bus and it was only Rs.6.00! I fainted. - Hema

At Chennai, the following rates apply:
Minimum: Rs.40 ( less than 1 km.)
Senior citizens : alone Rs.70
Senior Citizens with a bag or a kid Rs.100
Night Time: Rs.150

per km.charges:
Rs.20 /- ( chennai central to Arumbakkam is really 8.6 kms.)

petrol costs nearly Rs.70 to Rs.75
usually our autos, the drivers say, run only 5 to 7 kms for 1 litre of petrol.

apart from this there is usual bata for uniforms.

What else can these poor auto drivers do?

Pity them !

No it's not! In that link, the top photo is a photo! The video shows the painter painting a version of the photo, and the finished product is different from the original photo. See the difference in the hair on the neck, drop on her lower lip, or the white band to the lady's left.

It is a great painting though, but what you have posted here is the photo!

Cricket in India

The story goes like this. It was the last week of December, 1960, and India were playing Pakistan at the Brabourne Stadium. On the second morning of the match, while some forty thousand people crowded into Brabourne, a smaller but not less intense crowd gathered in an Irani restaurant outside. This eatery had been chosen by Dr Lohia for a press conference.

To a group of assembled journalists, the good doctor thundered on about how the game of cricket symbolized our continuing colonisalism, and how the last Englishman to rule India was complicit in this. Throw out Nehru, he said, and we can all happily start playing kabaddi.

The scribes departed, to file their stories. My informant is the only person still living who saw what happened next. Apparently, after the journalists had all gone, Dr Lohia walked across to the nearest paanwallah, asked for a jodi of his favourite ek sau bis kanauji, and then continued: ‘Kya Hanif out ho gaya kya?’ The answer came back, 'No, Hanif Mohammed is still batting."

A man enters heaven and sees a huge wall full of clocks. He asks an angel,
"What are these for?" "These are Lie Clocks, every person has a Lie Clock.
Whenever you lie on earth, the clock moves", the angel says.

The man points to a static clock and asks "Whose clock is this?" "It's Swami Vivekananda's. It's never moved, shows that he never told a lie", says the angel.

The curious man asks "Where do you have the Indian politician's clocks?" The angel replies "
They're kept in our offices. We use them as table fans."

Refreshed files

I have today refreshed the label "Sirgazhi Govindarajan". Even here, I have to locate few more links from my back up, which I will do as and when I locate them.

Out of the four missing links, which I could not locate in the label of "N. C. Vasanthakokilam" , three were sent to me by Mr. Bhaskaran Sivaraman and they are now included. Thanks a lot Mr. Bhaskaran. Only one song ( Vetri muzhakkangal) is to be located. Readers are requested to help me.

Muthai tharu

Arunagirinaadhar attempts suicide by jumping off a temple tower when Lord Muruga disguised as a Brahmin saves him, shows him the path of devotion and initiates him to compose the Thiruppugazh, an anthology of songs dedicated to Lord Muruga.
The first offering begins with ‘Muthai Tharu.’ This hymn with tongue-twisting lyrics in Tamil is difficult even to read at leisure and TMS created history by recording it in a single ‘take’! Composed in raga Shanmughapriya, the music directors were G. Ramanathan and T.R. Papa who were big names in those days. Soundararajan recalls that the tune was composed by Papa, and before the recording he called on the religious savant Kripananda Variar who translated every word of the song and TMS had rehearsals for an entire day before he recorded it. An amazing performance indeed and, not surprisingly, the song is one of the immortal melodies of Tamil Cinema.

"Kaayaadha kaanagaththe" is the famous song in Sri Valli drama which S.G. Kittappa was also staging and made this song very popular. Hence I think when people started recording his songs this would have been first choice. T.R. Mahalingam did render this song. His inspiration was SGK.

An open letter to Chief Minister of Tamilnadu

Respected Madam,

I happened to be on tour on southern parts of Tamilandu for fifteen days. Really the power cut problem was so bad, people are very much frustrated. Nearly 14 hours a day there was no power supply. Even in houses where there were inverters with battery backing suffered, because, they could not get charged because of the intermittent power cuts .The difficulties the Industries and business people are facing is well told by print media and electronic media.

Perhaps, you hope to solve the problem in another 12 months, so that the you can get better result in Parliamentary elections and by the time the next assembly elections people may forget this problem.

I remember, few years back, when the city of Madras faced acute shortage of water, you introduced "Rain harvesting" and made every building to harvest rain compulsorily. Since then, the city of Madras has never faced major water shortage.

It is high time you now introduce solar power system and make it compulsory that every building in Tamilnadu must have installation of solar panels. Even country like United state of America, who is not so desperate for want of power like us, has made it  compulsory to have solar panels in all the new buildings.

Your Government can induce public to go in big scale by giving incentives or subsidies. This will go a long way to solve our power(!) problem and you will go well in the history of Tamilnadu.

With greetings
A true citizen

I am back !

Yes. I am back. From lot of frustration, (because of mediafire), many hesitations due to the doubts that whether I will have patience and energy to restore the lost files, and anxiety to assess the time it will take to restore four years efforts etc. etc, I was desperate.

But the love and affection showed by you all, the encouragement given by many followers of this blog, praying for my energy and health by many readers were reminding me that I should do it.

So, I am venturing again. I do not know whether I will be able to continue and succeed. But I will try my level best to satisfy you all. I have more commitment towards my family now, since I am going to become a grandfather by January end or February first week. I will love and like to spend as much time of my limited life with my grandson. Yet I will try to fulfill my commitments to thousands of readers of this blog.

It may take more time for me to do with the new server, with which I should get acquainted with as much with mediafire. The procedures are bit complicated to me to begin with. Age prevents me to grasp things fast and execute. You should pardon me if I am not up to your expectations in speed with the postings as well as replies to your queries.

While restoring the old files in the new format, I will also try to post new ones. Your comments and suggestions will be the "boost of my energy." Please tell/write/convey to your relatives and friends, who might have stopped coming to this blog with disappointment. It was surprising that even when I was inactive there were new followers to this blog. That does not go to my head but to shoulders.

I have posted new one of Ariyakkudi and restored the Concert No 18 of Smt Anuradha Krishnamourthy which was in my popular posts since I posted it.

I will try to avoid controversial postings and copyright violations ( even though I have my own reservations on these claims except commercial cds). Readers who send  the contributions may also have this point into consideration.

We will meet again tomorrow.

Lot of people will be relieved & happy.
I have one suggestion: The archives can be rebuilt by the followers and members , by sending non-copyright material. This can include private concerts and out-of copyright songs.
Anything registered with the Indian Performing Arts society (maybe the name is wrong- the body that holds all copyrights) is taboo. This includes most CDs and tapes.
