    Bilahari

Bilahari, a janya of the 29th mela Dheera Shankarabharanam.
Bilahari is an audava sampoorna raga. While the aarohanam has five notes, the avarohanam is complete with all seven notes.
    Aarohanam: S R 2 G3 P D2 S
    Avarohanam: S N3 D2 P M1 G3 R2 S
Swaras used are Chatushruti Rishabha, Antara Gandhara, Shudha Madhyamamam (only in avarohanam), Panchamam, Chatushruti Dhaivatam and Kakali Nishadam. Occasionally, Kaishiki Nishadam is used as anya swara (alien note). This makes the raga a Bhashanga raga.
Generally, small nishada or Kaisiki Nishada is used only in sancharas such as:
    P D2 N1 P D2 P
The sanchara is a beautiful one and makes the raga soulful.
Jantai prayogas (swaras used in pairs) such as GG, PP, DD are used frequently. The prayoga G P D S N D P helps to bring out the raga chhaya or shade of the raga distinctly while singing the alapana. Careless singing or accidental omission of the note N in the avarohanam immediately brings in the raga Mohanam. Hence, care must be taken to include N in avarohanam always.
This raga is usually featured in the first half of a concert as the sub-main or the second main piece. Step by step development of raga alapana is a must to bring out the rasa.
Veera rasa is attributed to this raga.
This is also known as a morning raga. This popular raga is a favorite of Nadaswara players.
One very popular composition in this raga is 'Ra Ra Venugopala', a swara jati used in early stages of training. Students find it very easy to learn.
This raga resembles the Hindustani raga 'Aliya Bilaval', though this has the note N in the arohana, which is omitted in Bilahari. (Courtesy: Seetha-Narayanan.sulekha.com)

      22nd March 09 - Diary

I have posted Aiyappan songs fresh under mediafire, since most of the songs under rapidshare were not available for download. Readers can now download all these beautiful songs. I will add further songs to this page.

I have also updated all the songs of N.C. Vasanthakokilam under mediafire, so that you can download them without any difficulty.

I have added some more Bhajans under that category.

Some members were nice enough in pointing out, certain mistakes happening, while uploading the songs and I am rectifying them. I appreciate, their interest in seeing this blog without any defects. If any body is not able to download, or there is any discrepancy in the details, please be kind enough to let me know, so that I can correct them.

I will also request the readers, while pointing out the mistakes, to clearly state under what head /label the mistake has happened, so that, it will be easy for me to locate the mistakes and rectify them.

Thanks a lot for the suggestions/corrections and wish you all the best in everything in life

      Fantastic technology

READ BELOW BEFORE WATCHING THE VIDEO
World Air Traffic one minute video... (24 hours condensed to 1 minute)

This is a fascinating one-minute video...

It is a 24-hour observation of all of the large aircraft flights in the world (recorded by the airplane flight transponders via Geo-stationary orbital satellites) patched together and condensed to about a minute, i.e., you watch 24 hours of flights compressed into one minute.
You can see it is summer in the north by the location of sunlight on the planet.
With this 24-hour observation of aircraft travel on the earth's surface, we also get to see the daylight pattern move across the planet.
Notice the reduction of activity in each region during the darkness of late night/early morning.

      Thanks to Mathangi (Ramya)

Some interesting facts about my blog

I started my blog, like many other bloggers, to express my thoughts and feelings in the internet. Incidentally, I posted some of my collections in Carnatic music, since, I always wanted to share whatever was in my possession. Surprisingly, there was very good response to these songs uploading and lot of readers started demanding more and more of songs. Thus, it has become the main feature of this blog.

Initially, I was uploading the songs in rapidshare, and there were lot of complaints from my readers, writing to me, that it is very difficult to download, and it was not allowing readers to download the songs easily, thereby the readers could not download more than one or two songs a day. Rapidshare was also deleting the songs if they are not downloaded within 90 days. With the difficulty in downloading and also because of the deletion of songs, out of the 2000 and odd songs uploaded by me got deleted and now only about 82 songs remain there, even though 2571 downloads, had happened.

Then I also tried imeem where it can direcly heard, without downloading, to prevent the difficulties of downloading. Even though, with 396 songs, it is being used by many and 5281 times the songs were heard. But readers were expressing their difficulty in downloading the songs in which they are interested, from this site. Interestingly the top five songs under this site are as follows:

      5.Varnam - Viriboni -Bhairavi124 hits

Then I started to upload in mediafire , which was very easy to upload and everybody found it is also easy to download, without any restrictions. 1657 files uploaded so far, and total download served as on date is 50,403. An average of 600 downloads are happening now a days.
I am happy, that many, who are in far away places, who could not have access to these songs, because of many handicaps, could enjoy this divine music, and I want to mainly share this music with younger generations.

If you find that somebody is interested in this music, please tell him/her about this blog, so that they, particularly youngsters can develop interest to this music.

I am happy it is being viewed in 43 countries and 290 cities

      20th March 2009 - Diary

Sashi Tharoor, having achieved certain greater heights in his life, in places like United Nations has perhaps become desperate, after losing his election to Secretary General's post. There is no doubt, that he is one of the best brains of India and his knowledge and intelligence can be of great asset to our country. Unluckily, he has chosen a wrong path to do his best to his motherland. He will be certainly a best Minister if he becomes a Minister also, specially for foreign affairs.

But will he be allowed to execute his thoughts and plans by our rotten politicians? Remember, some of the best brains who entered politics with great aspirations to their country?

Subramania Swamy, a scholar from Harvard University has become a "comedian" in Indian politics. Arun Shourie, Arun Nehru, Arun singh are in oblivion. Choose the ten best brains of India, and it is sure, none of them will be in politics. No doubt, it is a curse. The most powerful person in India as on date is a person who is neither qualified academically or intellectual, nor having any amount of intelligence to be appreciated. Because, politicians want only such people as leaders, so that they can continue to rule this country and its wealth.

Remember the great saying, " Politics is the last resort to..................". Certainly, Sashi tharoor is not in that list

This man is considered one of the best captain in the world. Why did he not do any thing to break the partnership of Vettori and Ryder, by using different bowlers? The pitch might have lost the juice, what it had in the morning, but it does not mean you cannot break the partnership of an inexperienced young man and a player who is prominently a bowler. There were options of Yuvaraj and Sachin and any ordinary bowler would have broken this partnership which had the best run rate.

I am not going into the merits of Varun Gandhi's speech and also whether it is his own or concocted one
or not. I am not a Hindu fanatic, and I am being called in my close circle as an atheist, and I do not follow any of the customs, normally followed by even an ordinary Hindu . But one thing what he has told in his subsequent interview is 100% true ( Sathyam) " In this country, if any body talks the word Hindu, he is considered a communal" I fully agree with him, and this is being exploited especially in English news media ( I see only English news channels and occasionally Tamil news channels to know what is happening in Tamilnadu).

Mentionaning Tamil channels, remind me how much Tamil channels are way behind in quality presentation of Reality shows. Please see Super singer programme of Vijay TV and Asianet, and you will find the difference of QUALITY presentation. If you want to read more about this read this Link. http://yessel.wordpress.com/ இவர் என்னைவிட நன்றாக கிழிகிழி என்று கிழிக்கக்கூடியவர்.

I am not a regular visitor to theaters to see movies. Only after reading lot of reviews and after analysing them threadbare and hearing from many people, I will go and watch a movie. Particularly, I do not take any risks with Tamil movies. Exceptions in the past two years were "Mozhi"and " Abhiyum Naanum". "Yaavarum nalam" is another movie , I saw last and was really interesting and every one of you should see that. Everything is so natural in that except the story, and this story is taken so naturally and keep us engaged through out. We are reaching a stage that we can recommend to people Tamil movies if they are produced in this way without unnatural scenes of "songs of hero and heroine surrounded by a crowd" and "single fellow irrespective of his nature and physique .fighting with many people, unhurt or even if hurted."

      Know your customer

A disappointed salesman of coca cola returns from his middle east assignment.
A friend asked " why were not you successful with arabs?"
The salesman explained, " when I got posted, in the middle east, I was very confident that I would make a good sales pitch as cola is virtually unknown there.... But, I had a problem. I did not know to speak Arabic, So I planned to convey the message with three posters...

First poster: A man lying in the hot desert sand....totally exhausted and fainting.
Second poster: Man is drinking our Cola.
Third poster: Our man is totally refreshed.

Then these posters were posted all over.
" That should have worked" said his friend.
The sales man replied " But I did not realise the arabs go from right to left."

      Interesting facts

      Walking fast

Unlike when we swing our hands while walking, why are we not able to walk fast with our arms folded?

      G. SATHYAGIRIRAJAN

      Thiruvaiyaru, Tamil Nadu

It is an interesting phenomena that every of our muscles are controlled by nervous system for its function, described as ‘movement order’ from the brain. These are carried away from the brain from a place called ‘Motor Organization Cortex.’

This flow of impulses are modulated or regulated by various subordinate systems, just like a powerful water fall is regulated by various blockades of mountain on its way. These are extrapyramidal system, cerebellar system, and various other inhibitory or break pathways.

They ultimately end in spinal cord neurons, gets relayed there and as a final common pathway end in muscle receptors. The contracting muscle position is relayed to the brain as a ‘feed back’ through an organ called tendon organ of Golgi, which informs the brain about the stage and state of contraction.

During normal process of walking, this phenomenon is constantly happening. But in situations where when there is artificial stretching or contraction happens in the body, as we fold the hands tightly or grip the fingers, or hand tightly these impulses are generated from the tightening muscles to the brain that some part of the body is undergoing over stretch or contraction.

This information from the muscles in the hands warns the brain that the muscles are overcontracting. Thereafter the ‘power of movement’ from the brain, will try to reduce in order to protect the over contracting muscles. This effect is volleyed over to lower limbs also, and therefore the speed of walking is reduced.

This is a reflex phenomena of nervous system, rather a protective mechanism.

This phenomenon is called reinforcement of muscle contraction.
