Ohm and Gaayathri manthra

How many of us know ( even though being uttered by many everyday) the meaning of Gaayathri Manthra. Mr. Balayogi has sent this interesting article.

The importance of GAYATRI MANTRA thoroughly analysed here.   Someone has gone all the way to study and make the following presentation.

I have pleasure in sharing this with you all.

Yet another Scientific explanation of Gayatri Mantra….

GAYATRI MANTRA & Its Scientific Meaning
Gayatri mantra has been bestowed the greatest importance in Vedic dharma. This mantra has also been termed as Savitri and Ved-Mata, the mother of the Vedas.
Om bhur bhuvah swah
Tat savitur varenyam
Bhargo devasya dheemahi
Dhiyo yo nah prachodayat

The literal meaning of the mantra is:
O God! You are Omnipresent, Omnipotent and Almighty, You are all Light. You are all Knowledge and Bliss. You are Destroyer of fear, You are Creator of this Universe, You are the Greatest of all. We bow and meditate upon Your light. You guide our intellect in the right direction.

The mantra, however, has a great scientific importance too, which somehow got lost in the literary tradition. The modern astrophysics and astronomy tell us that our Galaxy called Milky Way or Akash-Ganga contains approximately 100,000 million of stars. Each star is like our sun having its own planet system. We know that the moon moves round the earth and the earth moves round the sun along with the moon. All planets round the sun. Each of the above bodies revolves round at its own axis as well. Our sun along with its family takes one round of the galactic center in 22.5 crore years. All galaxies including ours are moving away at a terrific velocity of 20,000 mile s per second.

And now the alternative scientific meaning of the mantra step by step:
(A). OM BHUR BHUVAH SWAH:
Bhur the earth, bhuvah the planets (solar family), swah the Galaxy. We observe that when an ordinary fan with a speed of 900 RPM (rotations Per minute) moves, it makes noise. Then, one can imagine, what great noise would be created when the galaxies move with a speed of 20,000 miles per second. This is what this portion of the mantra explains that the sound produced due to the fast-moving earth, planets and galaxies is Om. The sound was heard during meditation by Rishi Vishvamitra, who mentioned it to other colleagues. All of them, then unanimously decided to call this sound Om the name of God, because this sound is available in all the three periods of time, hence it is set (permanent). Therefore, it was the first ever revolutionary idea to identify formless God with a specific title (form) called upadhi. Until that time, everybody recognized God as formless and nobody was prepared to accept this new idea. In the Gita also, it is said, "Omiti ekaksharam brahma", meaning that the name of the Supreme is Om , which contains only one syllable (8/12). This sound Om heard during samadhi was called by all the seers nada-brahma a very great noise), but not a noise that is normally heard beyond a specific amplitude and limits of decibels suited to human hearing. Hence the rishis called this sound Udgith musical sound of the above, i.e., heaven. They also noticed that the infinite mass of galaxies moving with a velocity of 20,000 miles/second was generating a kinetic energy = 1/2 MV2 and this was balancing the total energy consumption of the cosmos. Hence they named it Pranavah, which means the body (vapu) or store house of energy
(B).

TAT SAVITUR VARENYAM:
Tat that (God), savitur the sun (star), varenyam worthy of bowing or respect. Once the form of a person along with the name is known to us, we may locate the specific person.Hence the two titles (upadhi) provide the solid ground to identify the formless God, Vishvamitra suggested. He told us that we could know (realize) the unknowable formless God through the known factors, viz., sound Om and light of suns (stars). A mathematician can solve an equation x2+y2=4; if x=2; then y can be known and so on. An engineer can measure the width of a river even by standing at the riverbank just by drawing a triangle. So was the scientific method suggested by Vishvamitra in the mantra in the next portion as under:-

(C). BHARGO DEVASYA DHEEMAHI:
Bhargo the light, devasya of the deity, dheemahi we should meditate. The rishi instructs us to meditate upon the available form (light of suns) to discover the formless Creator (God). Also he wants us to do japa of the word Om (this is understood in the Mantra). This is how the sage wants us to proceed, but there is a great problem to realize it, as the human mind is so shaky and restless that without the grace of the Supreme (Brahma) it cannot be controlled. Hence Vishvamitra suggests the way to pray Him as under:
(D). DHIYO YO NAH PRACHODAYAT:
Dhiyo (intellect), yo (who), nah (we all), prachodayat (guide to right Direction). O God! Deploy our intellect on the right path. Full scientific interpretation of the Mantra: The earth (bhur), the planets (bhuvah), and the galaxies (swah) are moving at a very great velocity, the sound produced is Om , (the name of formless God.) That God (tat), who manifests Himself in the form of light of suns (savitur) is worthy of bowing/respect (varenyam). We all, therefore, should meditate (dheemahi) upon the light (bhargo) of that deity (devasya) and also do chanting of Om. May He (yo) guide in right direction (prachodayat) our(nah) intellect dhiyo.

So we notice that the important points hinted in the mantra are:-
1) The total kinetic energy generated by the movement of galaxies acts as an umbrella and balances the total energy consumption of the cosmos. Hence it was named as the Pranavah (body of energy). This is equal to 1/2 mv2 (Mass of galaxies x velocity.

2) Realizing the great importance of the syllable OM , the other later date religions adopted this word with a slight change in accent, viz., Amen and Ameen.

Dear Sir Sri Vaithinathan Hariharan DHIYO YO NAH PRACHODAYAT. Enlighten me. Throw light into me.The Sir has presented this at the right moment. Today, 7th April 2011, has to say taht the meaning of "Enlighten Me" is yet to be accepted. It is being chanted as though it is something to be mugged up and reproduced. Enlighten me, as for as the know how accomplished by this mind is that "make me sleep". Do not permit me to go to the waking state, that is identifiying with the body. There starts all evils. Duality enters. Once ramana Maharshi said 'WHY DO YOU COMPLAIN ABOUT BODY PAIN, THE BODY IDENTIFICATION IS ITSELF A PAIN" .Do not conclude that Ramana Maharshi was capable of leaving the body conscience. Every day one ahs in so many occasions forget the body concept. You jump in joy forgetting the body when something most lovable happpens on a day. You cry forgetting the body when you lose something you never want to lose. When a hero of your favour fights and wins in a movie or a novel or a drama, you lose the body concept. The pity is that the loss of body conscience is not felt as the duration is nearly zero. Ramana Maharshi said "Do not brood over MAYA, the non-existant as your thoughts will only deceive you". There cannot be any reformation or change os any system without the permission of the Supreme. The Supreme knows when to interfere and how to. The permission was granted to Mahatma Gandhi and he did it. Wait. Let the CMS, PMS. MLAs, MPs past and current and would be continue their dancing. But the most important thing is the polpulation is to make a call. If the majority of the population is as bad as the mentors, the Supreme will laugh and allow to decay. Presently Satya sai Baba is suffering from acute illness. What is the message. A born is to die. The body which was called born has to vanish. This is the body conscience concept. How many of us still remember our Grand parents or great grand parents. The animal instint, 'survival of the fittest' is in everybody. Refusing to acecept is no problem. They are not enlightened, it can be said. The Rishis of the past have not said or wriiten anything with the thinking that there will be followers. They gave what they felt and were happy. It is for us to FEEL in the same way the Rishis felt. Ramana Maharshi in the courtyard of the British said that eh never preached and never wanted followers. He was fully aware that Institunalising his concept will only pave for profit makers. the building with a straong, suitable and precise foundation will be strong. Here the foundation itself is murky and loose sanded. The why do you complain about the cracks in the builidng. It is also not to good to crirticise those who or which clan that had the opportunity to be very close to the "enlighten" concept . Do not waste your energy on something which is not there. This is enlightenement. Thank You Sir with warm regards ravi

Leadership in the time of crsis

Leadership in the time of crisis

Roopen Roy

Recently, Toyota Motor Corp, the largest auto-maker on the planet faced a severe crisis. It had to announce the recall of millions of cars.  It was described by Toyota as a "moment of unprecedented crisis". "I am deeply sorry about the inconvenience and concern caused to our customers and others," a grim Akio Toyoda, the company's president and chief executive, said at a news conference at the company's headquarters in Nagoya, Japan.
I was struck by how the firm, which was deeply committed to the safety of its customers, reacted to the crisis. The recall was bound to cause a great financial loss to Toyota and have an adverse impact on its brand.  But they did not bury their heads in the sand in denial nor did they blame others. They did not say “ Our cars need better drivers” or “We need to be selective about people who buy our vehicles” or “We have nearly finished doing our internal investigation and we are yet to find any evidence that the alleged accidents have anything to do with faulty workmanship on our part”. The leader of Toyota took a bough and said, “I apologize from the bottom of my heart for all the concern that we have given to so many customers."
It was a dignified, honest and sincere approach of acknowledging a problem and dealing with it head-on. I am a customer of Toyota and the way the leadership dealt with the crisis increased my admiration of and confidence in the auto company.
Usually when a crisis hits a company, the natural tendency of disingenuous leadership is to go into a denial mode: “Nothing to do with me”’. Sometimes they can go into a “Deny it mode” and the refrains are “We did not do anything wrong”, “We cannot comment on why it happened” –“We did our job”. When the groundswell of public opinion and media reactions damage the brand, poor leaderships spend millions of dollars on PR consultants, media handlers and on a “we are innocent, we are victims” campaign.
But the legal process often catches up with the wrong-doing and negligence. The next phase is: find and punish scapegoats.  “Oh our product is without blemish, our processes are flawless, sorry a few of our workers and inspectors fell asleep on the assembly line , and guess what? We have fired them. End of the story: no remorse, no atonement, no apologies!!!
A crisis handled dishonestly can severely damage the brand experience and reduce the brand promise to an empty boast. My friend  Nirmalya Kumar, who is a Professor at London Business School, has studied how companies can manage such a crisis to enhance customer loyalty. He says, “Our research has identified “four Cs”  that should guide companies in troubled times: be candid, contrite, compassionate and committed.”
Let us look at another crisis in another continent. When hate crimes were being committed against Indian students in Australia –the first reaction in Australia was one of denial. Admitting hate crimes, the mainstream newspaper The Australian wrote in early February 2010 :"India is an enormous power in the new world order. It is Australia's fourth-largest export market, our second-largest source of foreign students. We earn about $14 billion a year in education exports. And it is a central player in the geo-strategic equations of Asia and increasingly of the whole world." In short, much was at stake.
The Foreign Minister of Australia Stephen Smith took a bold and courageous step of telling his Parliament , “If any of these attacks have been racist in nature - and it seems clear some of them have - they will be punished with the full force of the law". This was straight talk. Leadership in a crisis demands courage, conviction and candor.
I will relate an experience narrated to me by a dear friend who is no more. He had migrated to Los Angeles. After a year or so he was involved in a serious and tragic auto-accident in which lost his eyesight. An ambulance-chasing tort litigator soon arrived at his bed-side and wanted to be of help, “Tell me sir, it must have been the other guy who was speeding recklessly and crashed into your car.” “There was no other guy,” my friend said wearily, “I crashed into a tree.” “It must have been the poor lighting on the streets, we can sue the bureau of street lightings “I am sorry,” said my friend, “  it was around noon  on a clear day.” “Ah! Then obviously your brakes did not respond promptly and we should sue the auto company.” “Not really,” my friend added, “I pressed the accelerator instead of the brake by mistake and crashed into a tree in broad daylight.” The lawyer was exasperated by now. He concluded , “Then the only guy who deserves to be sued , sir, is the one who gave you the license to drive the car and clearly you do not  want to sue him. Good day and good luck.” Admitting a mistake is an admirable leadership quality. Blaming others including the regulator is not a smart strategy.
Owning up one’s own mistake is the most difficult task for a leader in the time of crisis.  Only a rare leader has the ability of looking at the mirror and admitting   that it is not a pretty sight.  The hubris, arrogance, ego, chutzpah and sycophants  come in the way of  saying  “We made a mistake and we are deeply sorry”. The embryo  of the crisis is often within.  As Jon Swain in his book the River of Time famously said, “   I think that I found my enemy at last: it was myself”.
