Will this happen for the better future of India?

This was an open letter written by Mr. Chetan Bagat in Times of India. How good it will be for India, if Mr. Modi and Mr. Nitish Kumar come together
Dear Nitish-ji,

I remember visiting Patna in November 2010. It was right after your election victory in which you clobbered your opponents. There was euphoria amongst common people. From the airport taxi driver, the hotel reception staff and litti-chokha stall owners to journalists to IAS officers, everyone spoke about how Bihar was changing for the better because of you. I am your fan too. We remember the lawlessness and lack of progress in Bihar before you. You have transformed one the most difficult to govern regions of India. You also have impeccable conduct, with the right amount of humility, inclusiveness and secular attitudes.

With such a positive image, however, one thing is surprising. One cannot help but notice a bit of insecurity about your voter base. It is as if you are not sure people in Bihar will vote for you if you do not get your Hindu-Muslim calculations right. For why else would you oppose Narendra Modi as a choice of PM candidate for your bigger national ally BJP, when he is clearly the frontrunner in that party?

Sure, Indian politics works on votebanks. Even a novice political analyst knows that no Indian politician can win without getting the caste, religion and community math right. However, you are no ordinary politician. In a country where the world politician is akin to abuse, you are one of the rare few that command respect. Unlike other politicians, people vote for you, and praise you because of your work.

Perhaps in your earlier days, to establish yourself, you had to play identity politics. Today, Nitish Kumar wins because he has done stellar work. He doesn’t need to be insecure anymore.

We must have a competitive election in 2014, as that will keep both the major parties on their toes. Indians deserve choices, in the leaders that might govern them.

We know who leads the Congress, and there is little debate there. In the BJP, Narendra Modi seems to be the clear standout candidate who can put up a solid fight with the ruling party. This candidate has not been chosen on a whim. It is a result of the popular mood. By not respecting that decision, you are, in a way not respecting the popular mood.

The future of India depends on how well you can come to terms with your apprehensions and insecurities about backing the candidate chosen by your allies.

Do you really want the fourth generation dynasts to have a cakewalk election? Do you really want India to have a PM who never talks to the media or takes questions from people? You, of all people, have come up as a politician on pure merit. Will the end purpose and culmination of all your achievements be to indirectly support a dynastic family with a ruler that will be rarely there for his people?

In asking for a secular PM candidate from your allies, you are implying certain BJP leaders are secular and some are not, which is an indirect slur on the party you are partnering with. It isn’t fair.

In fact, if you do have apprehensions about people’s secular credentials, whether real or perceived, you are needed even more. For you will be the perfect counterbalance to keep any occasional communal tendencies in check.
Nitish Kumar will not only be partnering and supporting the BJP to ensure it does good work, but will also be watching and monitoring, to ensure the secular fabric of the nation is intact. In this way, you are extremely vital in this partnership. You are of course, also vital in your appeal in eastern parts of India, where Mr Modi may not have such a following.

I hope you will reflect on what is at stake here. India’s youth is waiting, almost clamoring for a real leader at the top. You can either help make that happen, or play politics like the rest of them. However, the difference is Nitish-ji, you are not like the rest of them. We have hope from you.

Frankly, if politics were to be played, there can be a solution to your hesitation about Mr Modi. There can be a front candidate, who is more palatable and Mr Modi behind him. This will keep up the appearances, keep you happy, and still give Mr Modi the control.

However, this would be wrong. We have had enough of political games. We don’t want puppet title-holders with unaccountable leaders hiding behind them. Why fake it? If BJP supporters want and see Mr Modi as their leader, why put on a front for appearances? How will it be different from the current setup?

Hence, please for the sake of the country, relent a little. Your vote in Bihar is secure. People of Bihar, Muslims or Hindus or otherwise, have faith in you. They will understand the reasons for you supporting your allies’ choice. You don’t win on vote bank calculations . You are a brand. Your name alone makes people stamp on the ballot paper.

Let’s make 2014 a real fight. And then, may the best man win.

Madam Jayalaitha ! Will you look into this ?

World’s largest solar park to change face of arid north Gujarat region, Gujarat set to be the Solar Capital of the World – Narendra Modi

Gandhinagar, Friday: Even as Gujarat Government has decided to harness renewable sources of energy to maximum possible extent to solve the nation’s power shortage, Chief Minister Narendra Modi today said the State is set to become the ‘Solar Capital of the World’.

He w as inaugurating the 30 MW solar power project in near Gunthaw ada vill age in Kankrej taluka in Banaskantha district, bordering the Rann of Kutch. The plant set up by Mozer Baer Green Energy Company on 320- acre at a cost of Rs.465-crore in the private sector was commissioned in four months.
While the Centre could not start any solar plant even after announcing its solar power policy, Mr. Modi said, Gujarat has set up four such projects, including one at Charnaka.
Mr. Modi said the world’s largest solar park combining the vast stretches of land with ample supply of sunrays is also coming up in the region. The initiative should go a long way in solving the coal shortage. He said that Gujarat has already succeeded converting disasters into opportunities, as Kutch became the fastest growing district in the country during the last decade. Gujarat’s 1,600-km long coastline is humming with a number of seaports. And now it is converting the arid Kutch, Banaskantha and Patan districts into prosperous power producing regions.
He recalled that Gujarat was a power deficient state but today distributing 24-hour electricity to all the 18,000-odd villages in the state. With proper conservation and management of water and electricity, he said, Jyoti Gram Yojna has changed the socio-economic conditions of Gujarat, creating a mass awareness too.
While the Centre has been reduced to a power-corrupt government amidst zero development, Mr. Modi said, Gujarat has shown how power could be utilized for all all round growth. The state is undertaken new initiatives in recycling biomass and agro-waste.
Mozer Baer Company’s president Dipak Puri and project chairman Ratul Puri said the project should provide electricity to 50,000 villagers. They praised the Gujarat Government’s proactive policies.
Others present on the occasion included Social Justice Minister Fakirbhai Vaghela, Ministers of State Liladhar Vaghela and Parbat Patel, ex-MP Haribhai Chaudhry, MLAs and office-bearers.

adding solar power plants is not a permanent solution to TN as the tariffs payable for a solar power plant to break-even is Rs 14-16 per unit. In a state like TN which is reeling with power shortage, this is not a solution. what is missed out is that in Gujarat, people pay for electricity and is not subsidised as in TN. Therefore, they can afford to have higher tariff. The way out for TN is to reform the sector so as to reflect cost of service

Very interesting post. Modi has been doing a lot of good for Gujarath and the state has become one of the best states in the country although those in power in central government would not like to acknowledge it. They want to somehow implicate Modi for the communal violence that took place in Gujarat many years ago.

It is a fact Gujarath is marching ahead ispite of all the obstacles placed by the UPA leadership.

I enjoyed reading this fabulous post.

Best wishes,
Joseph

It cannot be said better

Terror Is Not The Enemy, Wilful Blindness Is

Tavleen Singh writes: Dynastic democracy has so derailed democratic processes that we have been ruled by an unelected prime minister since 2004. He was appointed by a lady whose own entry into public life was based wholly on marrying into the right dynasty. In recent weeks, it became blindingly clear that what India needed most was a real prime minister…”.
”.

Strategy expert Brahma Chellaney  tweets: "When a nation fails to execute for years a man sentenced to death for attacking its Parliament, it will only make its courts a terror target." Those are targets they managed to hit. Many others may very well be on their table.

Terror is not the enemy. It’s a strategic tactic, the Jihadists are the enemies. Will the govt have the courage to acknowledge that and begin the real war? If they don’t, we will just have to grow up or die!

Must read

The picture that emerges is that of a great country in a state of moral decay. The immediate future seems to belong to the doomsayers rather than to cheermongers. We suffer from a fatty degeneration of conscience, and the malady seems to be not only persistent but prone to aggravation.

The life style of too many politicians and businessmen bears eloquent testimony to the truth of dictum  that the single minded pursuit of money impoverishes the mind, shrivels the imagination and desiccates the heart. The tricolour fluttering all over the country is black, red and scarlet black money, red tape and scarlet corruption.

Do you know who said this ? roll below

Nani Palkhiwala wrote this on 16 January 1984. I wonder what he would have written today.

Nani Palkhiwala is a rare breed, how many of them today withdraw from the cases owing ethics which he has done in Indira Gandhi case. I was one of the fortunate to have listened to his some of the lecturs in Chennai. I do not know what he would have done when most of the judges are corrupt and probably he would fought tooth and nail to remove Justice (?) Dinakaran from his post

WHAT A FALL ?

Dear Mr.Prime Minister,

Like millions of ordinary Indians, I too watched from the beginning till the end your televised interaction with selected journalists from the electronic media on February 16,2011.

You had never spoken to us, the ordinary people of India, on the various scams which have rocked the country one after another since August last year. Our only source of information has been the media.

As the citizens of this country who put your party in power, we had a right to expect that you will talk to us and explain to us what is the truth and how you intend arresting and reversing the rot that has set in and the continuing decline in the credibility and image of India as a result of the stories of these scams .

These stories---whether correct wholly or only partly--- have brought out one thing loud and clear--- the ineptitude and incompetence of your Government, the poor supervision which seems to prevail in many Ministries and offices, including the Prime Minister's Office, and the insensitivity of many senior members of your Cabinet to public concerns over these alleged scams.

Corruption is nothing new, but the magnitude of it as seen since you came to power has been highly disturbing . What is new is the ineptitude, the incompetence and the lack of supervision which seem to prevail since you came to power--- the like of which one had not seen under any other Prime Minister of India since we became independent in 1947.

You try to blame your difficulties and embarrassments on your having to run a coalition. You are not the first Prime Minister having to run the country at the head of a coalition. V.P.Singh, Chandrasekhar, Deve Gowda, Inder Gujral and Atal Behari Vajpayee headed coalitions too. Despite this, they gave us a government which worked as a team and which did not pull in different directions. I can't recall any instance under the previous coalitions where a Minister repeatedly circumvented the instructions of the Prime Minister, without fearing the consequences of his action.

All the previous Prime Ministers, who headed coalition Cabinets, made it clear to their political associates who the boss was and who would take important decisions. They never tolerated anyone who sought to circumvent their instructions. They never let their political allies dictate terms to them.

This is the first time we are seeing a Prime Minister, who tries to earn not the confidence of the people by projecting himself as a strong leader who will not tolerate any nonsense from his coalition partners, but the pity of the people by projecting himself as a helpless leader, who has nothing but to do what his coalition partners ask him to do.

We watched in utter amazement for one hour on February 16 not the rallying cry of a leader,
who has realised the magnitude of the rot and who is determined to set it right whatever be the consequences to his position as the Prime Minister, but an exercise in self-pity of a leader who is at the mercy of his coalition partners and does not have the courage to call them to order.

This was the first time we had an opportunity of listening to you on the State of the country in the light of these scams. We were looking forward not to excuses and pretexts to explain away the sins of commission and omission of your government, but to a bold re-assertion of your leadership as the Prime Minister of this great country, who has the courage to face the people of this country in their eyes and reassure them: Thus far and no further.

I have no doubt in my mind that many right-thinking people of India, like me,must have felt ashamed and enraged as they saw the Prime Minister of this country giving out one excuse after another for not being able to govern effectively and for not being able to prevent blatantly wrong decisions and corruption.

You let us down badly, Mr.Prime Minister. You let us down badly.

Warm regards,

Yours sincerely,
B.Raman,

Additional Secretary (retd),
Cabinet Secretariat, Govt. of India, New Delhi

It was really sad, unfortunate to hear the P.M. covertly rather justifying 2G auction comparing it to the subsidies handed out on Kerosene etc. And one knows that the subsidy on the above essentials are a social commitment and I humbly fee that it can not be equated to loss on 2 G auction.

Wake up Mr. Chidambaram !

When America, Britain, Israel and many other countries are warning India, about the possible attacks by terrorists, in India on the eve of festive season, Mr. Karunanidhi releasesnine hard core terrorists from the prison quoting "Anna"s name. And today, Police is erecting barricades through out Coimbatore, issuing id cards to residents, Upping guard against strangers according to Times of India. It also adds funding for putting up the security barricades, would also come from local businessman and residents ( neither from Mr. Karunanidhi nor from his bankrupt Government). And the reason for all these activities according to Police commissioner Mr. P. Sivanandi " Our crime rate is not very high, but we want to make the city safe". A sudden inspiration !

Can Mr. Karunanidhi assure and personally guarantee you Mr. Chidambaram that these terrorists released last week will not indulge in any terrorist activities again or at least they will not be approached by their counter parts from Pakistan?

Would you be so calm as you are today on this issue, if the same would have been done either by Karnataka Government, or for that matter Madhyapradesh, Bihar leave aside Gujarat?

Are you compromising the safety of public, just to maintain your party's good relation with D.M.K?

While the whole north Indian English media TVs appreciating you tenure as Home Minister, with which we also agree, why did none of them questioned you about these releases? Are these terrorists are just criminals who murdered people on emotional out burst? Are they not cold blood murderers?

Please Mr. Chidambaram! We have great regard and respect for you for not having security guards, special planes, unlike your predecessor and dare enough to go to Hyderabad sports as a common spectator. But it does not mean you should be afraid of calling "spade as spade" irrespective of your leader's friendship to great(?) Kalaignar, not as a congress minister but as a Home minister of India.

Will you wake up in this case, Mr. Chidambaram?

An open letter to Rahul Gandhi - Tamilnadu

Dear Mr. Rahul Gandhi,

I was not in favour of your mother being the Congress President, because it indicated the dearth of an Indian leader to lead this party. I am happy now, that you are taking up slowly, but steadily the control of Congress, and I will even prefer, Priyanka becoming the Congress president, once you take over the official position in the Government.

Even though, I do not like congress for various reasons, I do appreciate the impact you have created in Uttar Pradesh by winning more seats, and at the same time, eliminating caste based parties.

While you concentrate in improving the position in U.P and Bihar, please make it a point to concentrate in Tamilnadu, which has also got 40 seats for Parliament including Puduchery. No body was even thinking of improving the congress position in the state after 1967, and the people of Tamilnadu were made to suffer under the rules of Drvidian parties, who are now holding records for corruption in the entire India.

It is high time, the most corrupted DMK and AIADMK are to be removed from the power of ruling the state without interruption, and if it all anybody can do it now, it is only you by building up youth congress, by removing the sons and relatives of Congress leaders of Tamilnadu and simultaneously bringing in some young . dynamic, educated youth from the public.

If, not relenting to the pressures of Mr. Karunanidhi to make his family members as Cabinet ministers, and vehemently opposing T.R. Balu and A. Raja for ministerial posts, is also on account of part of your role, please continue this action by striving to improve the Congress party in Tamilnadu. It will not only, help Tamilnadu, but also the country as whole.

Tamilnadu, always had soft corner for Congress Party to be at power in centre, and to get 25 or 30 MPs from Tamilnadu may not be difficult, if you go independently as you did in UP. I am confident it can be achieved if not in 2014 but cetainly in 2019.

I wish you have the will and vision.

Yours truly
V. Hariharan

V. P. Singh died, I am happy he died on this day

V.P Singh passed away. Thank God, he passed away on 26th November 2008, when the entire media was busy covering the terrorists attack on Bombay Five star Hotels. Other wise, all the media, either T.V or Newspaper, would have talked and published through out the day about him, not only about him, but about the castes in India and Mandal commission and induced more caste feelings among youngsters and common people. I am happy, not because he died, but because he died on this day, so that we were spared of repeated comments of caste system, thereby we were not reminded the caste feelings to those who have forgotten it.
