Our national anthem - a different view

An interesting and shocking view about our national anthem, which every one of us should know. I got this confirmed from a Bengali relative of mine
Facts about "Jana Gana Mana" - Just a thought for the National Anthem! How well do you know about it?

I have always wondered who is the "adhinayak" and "bharat bhagya vidhata", whose praise we are singing. I thought might be Motherland India! Our current National Anthem "Jana Gana Mana" is sung throughout the country.

Did you know the following about our national anthem, I didn't.

To begin with, India's national anthem, Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka, was written by Rabindranath Tagore in honour of King George V and the Queen of England when they visited India in 1919.

To honour their visit Pandit Motilal Nehru had the five stanzas included, which are in praise of the King and Queen. (And most of us think it is in the praise of our great motherland!!!)

In the original Bengali verses only those provinces that were under British rule, i.e. Punjab, Sindh, Gujarat, Maratha etc. were mentioned. None of the princely states were recognised which are integral parts of India now Kashmir, Rajasthan, Andhra, Mysore or Kerala. Neither the Indian Ocean nor the Arabian Sea was included, since they were directly under Portuguese rule at that time.

The Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka implies that King George V is the lord of the masses and Bharata Bhagya Vidhata is "the bestower of good fortune".

Following is a translation of the five stanzas that glorify the King:

First stanza: (Indian) People wake up remembering your good name and ask for your blessings and they sing your glories. (Tava shubha naame jaage;tava shubha aashish maage, gaaye tava jaya gaatha)

Second stanza: Around your throne people of all religions come and give their love and anxiously wait to hear your kind words.

Third stanza: Praise to the King for being the charioteer, for leading the ancient travellers beyond misery.

Fourth stanza: Drowned in the deep ignorance and suffering, poverty-stricken, unconscious country? Waiting for the wink of your eye and your mother's (the Queen's) true protection.

Fifth stanza: In your compassionate plans, the sleeping Bharat (India) will wake up. We bow down to your feet O' Queen, and glory to Rajeshwara (the King).

This whole poem does not indicate any love for the Motherland but depicts a bleak picture. When you sing Jana Gana Mana Adhinayaka, whom are you glorifying? Certainly not the Motherland. Is it God? The poem does not indicate that.

It is time now to understand the original purpose and the implication of this, rather than blindly sing as has been done the past fifty years.

Nehru chose the present national anthem as opposed to Vande Mataram because he thought that it would be easier for the band to play!!! It was an absurd reason but Today for that matter bands have advanced and they can very well play any music. So they can as well play Vande Mataram, which is a far better composition in praise of our dear Motherland India.

Wake up, it's high time! Shouldn't Vande Mataram be our National Anthem.

Timing ! How important?

Excerpted from Nature’s Inspiration

“Patience, persistence and timing reap rewards.” Margaret Woods

In the mid-seventies, I began traveling to the southwestern parts of Alaska to photograph the coastal grizzly, or Brown Bear as it is referred to in the North. The falls along the Brooks River were becoming popular as a gathering place for bears because salmon pooled there as they made their leap upstream during migration periods. In early July, the river is running full and swift. The bears position themselves on top of the falls in a current that would sweep away the strongest human, but a large bear can weigh 1500 pounds and stand nine feet tall. The mouth is fixed and the stand is made. Salmon jump to the right, to the left, and eventually right up the center. Seldom does the bear lose his catch, allowing him to gain up to 300 pounds in the summer.

Everything in his pursuit is dependent upon a single factor: timing, as are the important pursuits in all of our lives.

    Mr. Karunanidhi and Kripaananda vaariyaar

    Tamilnadu Chief Minister's speech yesterday on the occasion of release of a book written by Mr. Veerappa Moiley, Union Minister for Law was as follows: For the purpose of authenticity, I have given in Tamil as it was published in Newspapers

    (italics in this speech are mine.)

    I am translating this nonsensical speech, for the benefit of those who cannot read Tamil.

    When I was a student, Kripaananda vaariyaar came to Thiruvarur. Vaariyaar was speaking " Should not kill living beings"

    At that time I got up and asked "Will this preaching apply to all living beings?"

    He said, "Yes. God has not created goats, cows and chickens for eating purpose."

    I got up and asked " Which living beings are created by God for Lions and tigers to eat?"

    It might have been wrong for a small boy to ask such questions in such a big audience. But there was nothing wrong in the principle/property of this question.(?)

    Vaariyaar who understood this ( the brilliance(!)) said, "Sit down. I will tell you later." but continued, " I know these people are different. That is why I did not reply."

    Then when he was speaking, he said,"the boy asked, Is there no danger for life if you eat vegetables. There is no danger for life if you eat vegetables, By eating drum stick, the tree won't die. By eating brinjal that plant will not die. There is no sin in it."

    I did not leave at it. Again got up and said," Ayya. the stalk of greens are plucked with roots for eating. Is it not sin?" Every body clapped.

    Dear friends !

    What an absurd statement and lie it could be! Just imagine. Vaariyaar says "do not kill living beings?" What is the brilliant question from Mr. Karunanidhi for it? "Whether the preaching applicable to all living beings?" Vaariyaar says, " yes. God has not created certain animals for killing and eating"

    Let us take his story as true! Vaariyaar might have said that we i.e. human beings, should not kill living being. What is wrong in that? That was his principle. The brilliant Karunanidhi immediately represents for animals like lions and tigers. Vaariyyar never said that the animals like lions and tigers should not kill other animals. He was not preaching to animals. He was preaching to human beings.

    And Mr. Karunanidhi wants us to believe that Vaariyaar did not have answer to this silly question. If I am not wrong, Vaariyaar with his versatile humour sense, might have said, " I was telling this to human beings; not for you. "

    Then Mr. Karunanidhi poses another question comparing plants to animals. If Mr.Karunanidhi did not understand even after 80 years, the scientific basics that "
    animals have a far more complex structure than a plant. We (animals) are more able to control reactions. We have more complex requirements of growth" and claiming that his questions to Vaaryaar were excellent and brilliant and he could not answer to that goes to show how ignorant he is still in certain subjects. And there is a crowd to clap for such comments.

    God save "Paguththarivu (common sense or rationality generated by Periyaar and his disciples)

    Neither I am great admirer of Kripaananda vaariyaar or against Mr. Karunanidhi, but I could not tolerate this sort of speeches by a Chief Minister who is not supposed to speak about a person who is no more to defend this statement or confirm this is true. Mr. Karunanidhi is regularly in the habit of quoting dead persons have told him this and that, of which, nobody can prove or say against.

    The woman in your life

    Those, who just got married, or those who are likely to marry, please read this without fail. Parents! If you have not advised your son in this pattern,please do it right now, before it is too late.

    Yesterday you might have married an employed woman or Tomorrow you may get a working woman, but you should marry her with these facts as well.

    Here is a girl, who is as much educated as you are;
    Who is earning almost as much as you do;

    One, who has dreams and aspirations just as
    you have because she is as human as you are;

    One, who has never entered the kitchen in her life just like you or

    your Sister, as she was busy in studies and competing in a system that gives no special concession to girls for their culinary achievements.

    One, who has lived and loved her parents & brothers & sisters, almost as much as you do for 20-25 years of her life;

    One, who has bravely agreed to leave behind all that, her home, people who love her, to adopt your home, your family, your ways and even your family, name

    One, who is somehow expected to be a master-chef from day #1, while you sleep oblivious to her predicament in her new circumstances, environment and that kitchen

    One, who is expected to make the tea, first thing in the morning and cook food at the end of the day, even if she is as tired as you are, maybe more, and yet never ever expected to complain;
    to be a servant, a cook, a mother, a wife, even if she doesn't want
    to; and is learning just like you are as to what you want from her; and is clumsy and sloppy at times and knows that you won't like it if she is too demanding, or if she learns faster than you;

    One, who has her own set of friends, and that includes boys and even men at her workplace too, those, who she knows from school days and yet is willing to put all that on the back-burners to avoid your irrational jealousy, unnecessary competition and your inherent insecurities;

    Yes, she can drink and dance just as well as you can, but won't, simply because you won't like it, even though you say otherwise.

    One, who can be late from work once in a while when deadlines, just like yours, are to be met;

    One, who is doing her level best and wants to make this most
    important, relationship in her entire life a grand success, if you
    just help her some and trust her;

    One, who just wants one thing from you, as you are the only one she knows in your entire house - your support, your sensitivities and most importantly - your understanding, or love, if you may call it.

    Treating her with respect, caring about her well-being and happiness, showing her that she matters. It means being faithful to her, honest with her, being there for her. It means going the extra mile to show her that you're thinking about her.Treat the woman in your life with respect. It means putting her in high regard no matter who she is and where she came from

    But not many guys understand this......

    Please appreciate "Her"..............
