Balaji seems to think that Ms. Sivapriya is from "within the community". She cannot be an Iyengar with such a name. Nevertheless, she probably is in close touch with Iyengars. No matter what, her imagination is wonderful. Some people are taking all this very personally and seem offended. Hey, cool down folks. We must all have the capacity to laugh at ourselves. Over the centuries, Iyers in Thiruvanaikoil and Iyengars in Srirangam (both within a few kilometres apart)were poking fun at each other. What started in Srirangam did not stay just in Tamil Nadu but spread all over India. There are lots of Vaishnavites especially in Gujarat and Bengal (Goswamis). There are Iyengars in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka who speak Telugu and Kannada respectively, but use Tamil pasurams for worship. Glory to Iyengars!

As a pragmatic (not orthodox and staunch) "Vaishnavite", this is the most ridiculous blog post ever. As much i want to read this in a "I'm joking" way, if you want to highlight the "culture", there are much more better ways than trying to do it in a demeaning way. You have lost your right to be called a Sri Vaishnavaite by trying to taking something so treasured by the rest of us in such a callous way.

Completely agree with the last comment about your lack of maturity.

I am NOT an Iyengar (Personally, I prefer the term Sri Vaishnavite to Iyengar) but enjoyed it immensely. The greatest gift of Sri Ramanuja was the concept of abject surrender with bhakti as the main ingredient. May Ms Sivapriya & others come out with an actual airline where the only qualification to fly to all Divyadesams will be devotion to the Lord and nothing else!

This made my day.. Laughed so much and missed my mother who is such a fierce and stauch Veera Vadagalai.. and never let us forget it.. Srimad Andavan Swami and his followers must read this.. They are all so tech savvy and will get a real smile out of all of them.. Am forwarding this to the Jeeyar Swami of Tirukurungudi and to the marvellous and erudite Jeeyar Swami of Nanguneri.. A totally brilliant work.. congratulations and please keep these Iyengarisms coming.. There are too many PSEUDO SECULAR Iyengars in Chennai who are not connected at all to their faith in an honest and direct way.

Very enjoyable reading. The concept of connecting to one's own roots through fun & game is admirable.

it is really good to read and we should also think in a differnt way.it is the time all brahmins should unite or otherwise there is a great damage waiting to happen to our community. Vaishnavisam is only a few hudread years old and pertained to Tamil nadu only.Hece dont forget our old culture of unity among ourself.

Great work Ms.Sivapriya. There is no offence in this. I am also an Iyengar. Nothing wrong in such writings when it is from somebody within the community

Not that it matters - Sudha Raghunathan is Iyengar only after marriage. Just some data for you :)

Do they have SilverWare for Non-Iyengars?

Will the others even allowed to board ?

Funny imagination !! Loved it..came via - Adengappa Prabhu !

About 6 months ago, I have read similar one in Saivaite style. The same airline stuff. That must have influenced Sivapriya to do one in Iyengar style. By the way, as somebody has commented, Sivapriya cannot be an Iyengar - or could have become an Iyengar by marriage.

Already its is vadagalai and thengali. Now there is a question for the kondai and parrot being on which side. Do you really know you own details about Vaishnavite that you are OR may be? Religion, Caste or Sect are not to be Sarcas' like this. Not sure how so many people have even appreciated. May they are being sarcastic.. Lord Venkataramana help all the SO CALLED Vaishanavites..

I am an Iyengar. This is a spectacular post. As expected, there are some snobbish PC comments.
Wake up folks and have fun.
A lot of the culture shown by the author is actually disappearing,
which is what most of us should think about.
Wonderful article!
Please don't mind the minority who feel the article is not in good taste.

Best Regards..

I am an IYER, but very much devoted to Lord Sri Vishnu and Sri Lakshmi, Adiseshan, Garudazhwar, Hanuman etc. (Iyers do not discriminate between Siva and Vishnu) There should not be exclusivity or possessiveness of any one particular GOD/GODDESS. NEVERTHELESS IT IS GOOD TO REMIND OURSELVES ABOUT OUR TRADITIONS, SINCE THIS COMPUTER AGE CHILDREN DO NOT EVEN KNOW THEIR MOTHER TONGUE TAMIL AND MANY OF THEM THINK THAT IT IS A FASHION NOT TO KNOW THEIR LANGUAGE. IN THIS CONTEXT, THIS ARTICLE HAS DONE A GREAT SERVICE. YOUNG GENERATION PLEASE WAKE UP. (I am sorry to point out the mistake of one of the commentators: He has mentioned his name as Srini VASAN. IT SHOULD BE SRI NIVASAN OR AS EVERYBODY WRITES SRINIVASAN.) I think everybody should have a good laugh. I think somebody should write about a Chettiar Airlines with PC as the main promoter, Mtgustetc. We, most of the Hindus, do not know the customs and traditions of the other caste/sub castes. Thank you Ms. Sivapriya.
