Second (Index) finger represents your Siblings
Middle finger represents your-Self
Fourth (Ring) finger represents your Life Partner
and the Last (Little) finger represents your children
Please join your thumbs as before and separate your Index fingers (representing siblings)... ., they will also open, because your brothers and sisters will have their own families and will have to lead their own separate lives.
Now join the Index fingers and separate your Little fingers (representing your children)... ., they will open too, because the children also will get married and settle down on their own some day.
Finally, join your Little fingers, and try to separate your Ring fingers (representing your spouse).
You will be surprised to see that you just CANNOT....., because Husband & Wife have to remain together all their lives
through thick and thin!!

- my dad told me when I inched forward to wear a ring on my would-be wife on the day of betrothal in 1968 and asked me to try it out. I was quite surprised to try and see the result. He added that his dad told him this chinese proverb in 1932 when he got married. subburathinam

- Instead of your middle fingers, if you bend your index fingers back to back you won't be able to separate your middle fingers only. Does that mean anything? :-)

- Sir, I tried myself and asked my wife to try this. But both cannot separate the ring fingers. Some of my family members tried and some of my friends tried. But no 100% result. What is the significance in both attempts? K V Ramani, Chennai

- Yes, you cannot separate the ring fingers - supposedly your life partner IF YOU as self willing to folded and hold yourself together - That's the secret to any marriage, I guess :-) --- Vivek V
- In the article itself it is clearly mentioned. All the other relations can be separated but not husband and wife.
