Concert - Madurai Mani Iyer - Calcutta - 1965

25 Th October is a very special day for us. On this day in 1912, god gifted the musical world, the musical genius of Late Sh.Madurai Mani Iyer(MMI).His music has always reminded me of a small baby engrossed with toys and oblivious to the world outside. Music that he rendered with the sole intention of spreading joy around him. The tonal purity, brilliant ideas and extremely deceptive simplicity in his music make the legend that is MMI.
I know of people who have refused admission into IIT Bombay because they didn’t want to leave Chennai for the fear of missing out on MMIs music. Even today, we have regular listening sessions and it is so touching to see senior citizens climbing up the stairs of a three storey building, just to listen to the maestro. It is a well known fact that auto drivers in Chennai would refuse to ply when MMI was performing. His music could draw both the lay and the elite. It Is typical of MMI fans to live, think and breathe his music.
(Mr. Narendran at rasikapriya-dot-net)

My humble tribute to him
