What a Tamil poem !!

கற்பகம்
கதைப் புத்தகம் படிக்கும்போது சொல்வாள்;

When I read this "kavidhai" I was alone. My body and mind were so excited, that I felt like sharing with somebody. How a truth about our Indian girls is so deeply expressed in such simple words. Hats off to the poet. I am yet to get out of the impact and I will never, since this was my feeling all along my life.

Sir, 9.87/km is damn cheap. Last week I had to travel from Chennai Central to Arumbakam - I think that the distance should be max. 8Kms. It was around 5 in the morning - I went to the prepaid auto stand (thinking that it will be like in Bangalore) - and they gave me a slip for Rs.147.00(their token charge was Rs.3.00). The auto driver told me that I had to pay night charge of Rs.30.00 also. After a lot of heated arguments, I did not pay that 30.00 rupees. Of course no one is going to search for all the exact change and so I gave 150.00 and plus the 3.00 the auto fare will work out to Rs.19.00+ On my return I took the bus and it was only Rs.6.00! I fainted. - Hema

At Chennai, the following rates apply:
Minimum: Rs.40 ( less than 1 km.)
Senior citizens : alone Rs.70
Senior Citizens with a bag or a kid Rs.100
Night Time: Rs.150

per km.charges:
Rs.20 /- ( chennai central to Arumbakkam is really 8.6 kms.)

petrol costs nearly Rs.70 to Rs.75
usually our autos, the drivers say, run only 5 to 7 kms for 1 litre of petrol.

apart from this there is usual bata for uniforms.

What else can these poor auto drivers do?

Pity them !
They also have a family to support

No it's not! In that link, the top photo is a photo! The video shows the painter painting a version of the photo, and the finished product is different from the original photo. See the difference in the hair on the neck, drop on her lower lip, or the white band to the lady's left.

It is a great painting though, but what you have posted here is the photo!

....that now that you've been elected, it's time to take
office. Are you ready? Are you ready to lead?

A leader is not one who says, "Follow me." A leader is
one who says, "I'll go first." You've been given a vote
of confidence by Heaven! Are you ready to lead, here
on earth?

You've been saying for a long time that you wished to
serve. You elected yourself. So celebrate this grand
moment, and now, take office! And by your good
offices, may your world be served.

Cricket in India

The story goes like this. It was the last week of December, 1960, and India were playing Pakistan at the Brabourne Stadium. On the second morning of the match, while some forty thousand people crowded into Brabourne, a smaller but not less intense crowd gathered in an Irani restaurant outside. This eatery had been chosen by Dr Lohia for a press conference.

To a group of assembled journalists, the good doctor thundered on about how the game of cricket symbolized our continuing colonisalism, and how the last Englishman to rule India was complicit in this. Throw out Nehru, he said, and we can all happily start playing kabaddi.

The scribes departed, to file their stories. My informant is the only person still living who saw what happened next. Apparently, after the journalists had all gone, Dr Lohia walked across to the nearest paanwallah, asked for a jodi of his favourite ek sau bis kanauji, and then continued: ‘Kya Hanif out ho gaya kya?’ The answer came back, 'No, Hanif Mohammed is still batting."

Laugh ! It is good for health

A man enters heaven and sees a huge wall full of clocks. He asks an angel,
"What are these for?" "These are Lie Clocks, every person has a Lie Clock.
Whenever you lie on earth, the clock moves", the angel says.

The man points to a static clock and asks "Whose clock is this?" "It's Swami Vivekananda's. It's never moved, shows that he never told a lie", says the angel.

The curious man asks "Where do you have the Indian politician's clocks?" The angel replies "
They're kept in our offices. We use them as table fans."

Refreshed files

I have today refreshed the label "Sirgazhi Govindarajan". Even here, I have to locate few more links from my back up, which I will do as and when I locate them.

Out of the four missing links, which I could not locate in the label of "N. C. Vasanthakokilam" , three were sent to me by Mr. Bhaskaran Sivaraman and they are now included. Thanks a lot Mr. Bhaskaran. Only one song ( Vetri muzhakkangal) is to be located. Readers are requested to help me.
